I will first give a short introduction to my university and town.
Then, the Ring Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detector used in the HERMES experiment at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) laboratory in Hamburg, Germany will be described.
When multiple particle tracks (such as kaon, pion) from electron-nucleon deep inelastic scattering enter the detector, the current particle identification algorithm more often misidentifiestracks.
A new algorithm that simultaneously considers al tracks has been devised and implemented.
First results show that the new algorithm is better able to identify multiple track events. This improvement allows for reduced error in many analyses
