I will discuss a new formalism, based on the tetrad approach to differential geometry, for describing cosmological observables in an exact, coordinate and model-independent way. This formalism introduces corrections with respect to the standard approach, which are non-negligible beyond linear perturbation theory and are therefore relevant in the era of precision cosmology.
